About this Earth gravity simulator

Earth Gravity Simulator: how fast do things fall?

How long does it take something to fall, how fast does it hit the ground, and do heavy objects fall faster? Choose up to three objects, a height or a famous place, the world and the landing surface. The simulator integrates gravity and air resistance to give the fall time, impact speed, terminal velocity and what happens on landing, then drops them side by side in 3D.

How to use the Drop Lab

  1. Tap a question, or choose objects, a place and a world on Set up, then press Drop!. The answer is ready before the drop: fall time, impact speed, terminal speed and what happens on landing.
  2. Watch the force bars: weight pulls down, air drag pushes up. When they balance the object stops speeding up, terminal velocity.
  3. Gravity map shows how gravity changes from Earth’s centre to the Moon. Measure g has two games that use real gravity.

The model integrates gravity that weakens with height and air drag that depends on air density (US Standard Atmosphere 1976), the object’s size, shape and speed, including the rise in drag near the speed of sound. “Would it break?” uses typical damage speeds; real outcomes vary with angle and surface.
